In terms of capacity, the domestic alkaline electrolyzer market maintained a capacity of 35.77GW this week, with no new capacity additions reported.

In terms of delivery, no electrolyzers were delivered this week. Last week, Shanghai Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. delivered four 1050Nm³/h electrolyzers to the China Energy Construction Songyuan Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park Project. Zhongji Zhongdian (Yangzhou) Hydrogen Production Equipment Co., Ltd. successfully delivered a complete set of 1000Nm³/h alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production equipment, including a 1000Nm³/h electrolyzer, separation skid, purification skid, and water-alkali tank, among other supporting equipment. Last Wednesday, SANY Hydrogen Energy delivered a customized 200Nm³/h PEM water electrolysis hydrogen production and hydrogen refueling station to an Australian customer. LONGi Hydrogen delivered two 1000Nm³/h electrolyzer units to Australia, and Wolong Inertech delivered one megawatt-class AEM electrolyzer, with the delivery destination yet to be confirmed.

As of March 20, 2025, domestic enterprises (including overseas deliveries) had delivered a total of 10MW of alkaline electrolyzers (all data are sourced from publicly available information).

In terms of electrolyzer orders, as of this week, there were six electrolyzer-related projects:

Zhongjia Green Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. is undertaking the construction of the Xiamen-Zhangzhou Island Green Hydrogen Scientific Research Demonstration Project, which includes a 10MW wind turbine generator set, a 2.5MW PEM water electrolysis hydrogen production system, public auxiliary facilities for the hydrogen production system, and two sets of 4080Nm³ chassis-mounted tube bundle containerized shared hydrogen storage devices.

Guomeng Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has announced a public tender for the project named "Guomeng Hydrogen Energy Technology (Bayannur) Co., Ltd.'s Green Electricity Hydrogen Production Project in Ganqimaodu Port Processing Park (Phase I)", with a scale of 120,000 tons of annual hydrogen production and a renewable hydrogen energy production, storage, and transportation base with a hydrogen storage capacity of 300 tons.

ChinaCoal Shaanxi Energy & Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. has announced a public tender for the project named "Procurement of Single-Stack 400Nm³/h PEM Electrolyzer Equipment for ChinaCoal Yulin Coal Deep Processing Base Project".

Huaqing Energy Equipment Co., Ltd. has announced a tender for the project named "EPC Tender for Shandan County's 1GW Green Electricity Hydrogen Production, Methanol Production Equipment Manufacturing Industry Integration, and Infrastructure Supporting Project".

CHN Energy Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has announced a tender for the project named "Procurement of 25MW Hybrid Modules for CHN Energy Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd.'s National Key 1.1 Project Demonstration Engineering".

Beijing Jingneng Holding Co., Ltd. has announced a secondary tender for the project named "Procurement of a 200Nm³/h Containerized Off-Grid Hydrogen Production System for the Hebei Zhangjiakou Xuanhua District Xuansteel Yantongshan 96MWp (Phase I 60MWp) Distributed PV Project", which includes a 200Nm³/h electrolyzer, among other equipment.

Policy Updates

  1. The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones of Egypt recently announced the launch of the largest green hydrogen factory project in the Middle East in South Sinai, Egypt, with a total investment of $17 billion and a planned annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of green hydrogen.
  2. The European Commission approved a €4 billion special fund for electrolyzers, offering a 30% subsidy on equipment costs for projects with a capacity of ≥500 MW/year, and setting an efficiency target of ≥60% (LHV basis) for electrolyzers in green hydrogen projects by 2030.
  3. The National Energy Administration of China issued the "Energy Efficiency Limit Standard for Alkaline Electrolyzers," mandating that newly built projects have a hydrogen production energy consumption per unit of ≤4.3 kWh/Nm³, and providing a 0.15 yuan/kWh electricity price discount for off-grid hydrogen production projects.

Corporate News

  1. The hydrogen energy testing platform of China Energy Engineering Beijing Equipment Co., Ltd. has been selected for inclusion in the important catalog of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.
  2. Hydrogen Technology signed a memorandum of understanding with PT Samator of Indonesia to establish a strategic business partnership in hydrogen energy in the Indonesian market and surrounding regions.
  3. Zhejiang Yankon Lighting Group Co., Ltd. has obtained approval for its 110 MW AEM hydrogen production equipment R&D and manufacturing project with an annual output.
  4. Thyssenkrupp Nucera, a subsidiary of the Thyssenkrupp Group, officially completed the acquisition of Green Hydrogen Systems A/S (GHS) of Denmark.

Patent Applications

  1. The Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (China) disclosed patent CN2025110028, developing a ceramic-based anion exchange membrane with a laboratory-tested lifespan of 80,000 hours.
  2. Johnson Matthey (UK) submitted patent WO2025109876, disclosing a Fe-Ni-Mo ternary non-precious metal catalyst formulation with activity close to that of platinum-based materials.

Technological Advancements

  1. A research team led by Professor Jianwu Sun at Linköping University in Sweden recently announced that through innovative design of a cubic silicon carbide (3C-SiC)/cobalt oxide (Co₃O₄)/nickel hydroxide (Ni(OH)₂) three-layer composite material, they have successfully increased the efficiency of photocatalytic hydrogen production by 800%, setting a new performance record for similar materials.
  2. The first set of off-grid medium-voltage DC 20 kV direct-connected hydrogen production power supply (also known as "Hydrogen Element 1") independently developed and manufactured by Tongda Electromagnetic Energy Co., Ltd. in China has been successfully applied.
